ICE 503 expected 45 minutes late." Mirza sighed. He bought a coffee and joined the growing crowd of waiting passengers. An hour later, the loudspeaker crackled. A distorted voice announced: "Due to a signal box failure near Halle, ICE 503 is cancelled today. Please use alternative connections. Your ticket restriction is lifted."
